The Risk Foundation makes grants to tax exempt 501(c)(3) organizations such as universities, colleges, research institutions and libraries. It targets support to institutions actively and consistently engaged in research and knowledge management activities. Grants are seldom if ever used to support operating costs or capital campaigns.

The Risk Foundation does not fund:

• organizations that do not have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status
• religious organizations for religious purposes
• political candidates or lobbying organizations
• sponsorships or advertising

Other restrictions may apply as determined by The Risk Foundation Board of Directors

The Risk Foundation issues periodic Requests for Proposal (RFPs) seeking applications for its Philanthropic Program. RFPs are distributed to a limited number of research and educational institutions and also posted on this website.

Application procedures and requirements for specific funded research programs are described in detail in the RFPs.

The application process generally begins with an initial Letter of Intent from the applicant in response to a Risk Foundation RFP. If invited by the Foundation, the applicant next submits a full proposal.

Unsolicited applications, or those which do not respond to a specifically issued RFP, are not encouraged. Telephone solicitations will not be considered.

Once a grant proposal has been considered and accepted, the grantee must sign a grant agreement detailing the terms and conditions of the grant award. A copy of the form of grant agreement is included in the Request for Proposal.
